cartier notes
my desk is chaotic today, but i'm taking it in stride because i've been catching up with a bit of correspondence using my brand new stationery set from cartier
while i spend most of my days on a computer or on my blackberry, nothing will ever replace a good ol' fashioned note.

after a quick lunch, i ducked into H&M to see if i could find a soft colored coat to wear over my dress for an upcoming weekend wedding.
and i totally scored. picked up this double-breasted coat for $29.95.
yes, this jacket is really only $29.95! i couldn't even believe it since the quality is fantastic (nice weight,lined, and covered buttons) and the color (taupe-y grey) is perfect for spring.

not a birthday surprise
of course this would happen since my cousin vic and i like the same things!
so i had been looking for a gift for vic's birthday when an email popped up in my inbox announcing the arrival of TOMS ballet flats. it was one of those ah ha! moments where i knew this is what i wanted to get her.
love the shape, and especially love all the new designs.
now, the only question was sizing. so i thought i was being slick and sent vic a text message saying that i was looking into picking up a pair of toms, was too lazy to go to the store, and didn't know what size to get. she replied back, and i promptly put in my order.
gave myself a pat on the back..until that night, i get a text saying "omg do you know toms has ballet flats now? i must get one!"
i didn't want her to end up with two pairs, so i had to tell her about my not so slick plan. sigh, at least i know she will love the gift!
if you were ever hesitant to buy TOMS before, these ballet flats are right up your alley. they're definitely more refined for a variety of outfits and places. i haven't seen them in person yet (just a glimpse of a few styles in a display box at nordstroms), but i will do a review when vic gets hers.

YSL Manicure Couture Duo Edition 8
this past week, i was craving something bright and unquestionably spring for my nails. i headed straight to nordstrom where i swatched the new chanel limited edition polish in june. sadly, it was a bit too pastel of an apricot for my skintone, and i had to pass it up.
walked a little further, spotted the YSL Manicure couture duo edition 8, and instantly fell in love. Two mini nail polishes in a bright bubblegum pink and tangerine for $30.00. It might be all in my head, but i always think brighter colors look better on me than pastels.

i bought this bag years and years ago because i thought it looked interesting..like a navy patent bag stamped onto a chocolate nubuck tote..
the shoes were found recently at nordstrom rack. i almost jumped for joy when i saw them. navy patent is not the easiest thing to find.

Warning For Girls!
I was at a work event tonight which is admittedly posh since it had to do with 1. politics and 2. included some decidedly prominent residents of my area.
There were not too many people my age in the vicinity, but i did notice a young lady wearing a smart sheath dress and a beautiful pair of christian louboutin bianca platforms (i'd recognize the shoe anywhere since a couple of my closest friends own that shoe in varying colors).
While everyone was watching the featured speech intently, the girl in the smart sheath dress and bianca platforms literally fell forward and crumpled to the floor in front of the speaker.
I was speechless. Of all my time working and attending such events, I have never seen anything like this happen. The room gasped and she was hurriedly brought out.
Girls, when attending a posh event wearing beautiful shoes, DO NOT drink more than you can handle. My rule of thumb is one full glass of water follows each glass of wine...always!

notes from beverly hills
this past weekend, i had plans to spend the day with a girlfriend whom i haven't seen for awhile since she's been traveling the globe (lucky duck!) we decided on delicious salads at cuvee on robertson (the shrimp taco salad is wonderful) followed by shopping the department stores along rodeo drive.
first, i decided that i need a pair of hot pink heels for spring.
tried on this pair at saks. while they are gorgeous, the arch of the foot is pretty steep and i don't think i would be able to stand for more than a couple hours at best.
headed over to barneys, where i spotted these beauties:
love the vibrancy of the color, and who can resist the signature red sole? i'm not keen on the mega platform though, and may have found my perfect match at the CL boutique. The "very prive" style in hot pink has stolen my heart, and i think i'm going to have to pull the trigger on them soon.
second, i had every intention of picking up a lip gloss from edward bess at neiman marcus, but ended up finding a couple products that i love from le metier de beaute. a very active work and social life has made me acutely aware of the need to amp up both my skincare and color options, and i spend about 5x more on beauty products than before. damn, to think of all the shoes i could've bought with that money!
