brunch by the beach

this weekend, we will be celebrating the birthday of one of my closest friends with a brunch by the beach.  we're going to manhattan beach post, which is one of the most delicious brunch spots just steps from the beach (i love the "old george" cocktail even at 11 am!)

beach brunch dictates that i will be in flat sandals and shorts, but a birthday calls for something a little dressier than my favored ribbed tank.  that's why i'm loving this diane von furstenberg "pepe" tank that i picked up on sale not that long ago. 

the easy shape makes it a cinch to dress up or down, but it has these thoughtful details (twisted straps and drapey layers) that make it so much more than just a tank. 

while my tank has disappeared from shelves, there is no shortage of dressy tanks on the market.  i'm quite taken with the lace back and studded detail of this zara tank:
