NYE

For new year's eve this year, my cousins visiting from mexico city (ages 5 and 7) slept over, and we woke up early to watch the rose parade in person.

i have so much respect for mothers. mothers like my cousin vic and bff soph.  you guys are amazing.  i felt like a mother for mere hours, and i had to take an epic 4 hour nap on new year's day to recuperate.  my nye consisted of braiding hair, "ice skating" with fuzzy slippers around hardwood floors, swirling food coloring into batter and baking cupcakes, and tucking the princesses into my bed with stuffed bears placed just so.

it was wonderful, and i'm so glad i was able to contribute to their cache of childhood memories.

the only catch? it was cold.  so very cold.  luckily, i had this to keep me warm:

Turtle Fur powderhorn earflap hat $44 at REI
i bought this turtle fur earflap hat awhile back because i thought the design was adorable.  little did i know then, but this woolen thing is like a space heater for your head.  it is handcrafted in wool and boasts an acrylic fleece lining that is not itchy, extra soft, and so very comfortable.

on new year's day, i woke up extra early, whipped up a batch of zucchini muffins, layered up in my big coat and hat, and watched the awesomeness known as the rose parade.  and the best part? seeing it through the eyes of my favorite little princesses.

i hope you all had a wonderful New Year's!
